  6. Bill Hall has sent in a new release of Kermit for Microsoft Windows.
  7. You may have seen Bill's feature article on this program in January 1991
  8. Microsoft Systems Journal: "Adapting Extended Processes to the Cooperative
  9. Multitasking of Microsoft Windows".  The previous release of this program
  10. only works under Windows 2.0x.  The new release is for Windows 3.0.  Here
  11. is Bill's description:

  13. "A version of Kermit for Microsoft Windows 3.0 has been made available for
  14. distribution by Columbia University.  The complete package contains a
  15. Windows program along with documentation, fonts, and complete sources.  The
  16. basic program, WIN100, contains a substantial emulation of DEC VT100 and
  17. VT52 terminals and a version of Kermit with enough features to perform
  18. reliable file transfer as well as act as a client to a Kermit server.

  20. "WIN100 has evolved from an earlier experimental version which has been
  21. available from Columbia for some time.  This latest version has several new
  22. features:
  23.  
  24.    1. Support for COM1 through COM4.
  25.    2. Improved font selection.
  26.    3. A wider selection of foreground and background colors.
  27.    4. Restricted scroll regions and origin mode.
  28.    5. Control representation mode.
  29.    6. Memory rollback.  Currently, this is limited to five screen pages.
  30.    7. Redesigned dialogs.
  31.    8. Editing commands to move around the terminal window and through the
  32.       rollback memory.
  33.    9. Substantial font support for the VGA including normal and bold fonts
  34.       with both the Windows and DEC special graphics character sets, all in
  35.       wide and narrow formats.  Sources for the fonts are also supplied.
  36.   10. An optional 8-bit mode with support for some DEC 8-bit controls.
  37.   11. A complete set of Kermit REMOTE commands including GET, BYE, FINISH,
  38.       LOGOUT, as well as remote file manipulations.
  39.   12. Enhanced user interface for working with REMOTE commands.
  40.   13. Local commands for listing and changing directories.
  41.   14. Dialogs for setting Kermit packet and Protocol parameters."

  43. The files have been placed in the Kermit Test area (kermit/test on watsun,
  44. T: prefix for KERMSRV) to allow for a period of public testing before formal
  45. release.  The file names all start with the prefix "wk".  Get the file
  46. "wkaaaa.doc" and read it first, then get the other files you need.  Many
